AI4P (AI for Peace) Ethical AI Principles Policy

Effective Date: May 20, 2025

1. Introduction

At AI4P, a DeepFunding initiative, we believe Artificial Intelligence holds immense potential to contribute to a more peaceful, just, and resilient world. However, we recognize that the development and deployment of AI technologies carry significant ethical responsibilities, particularly in contexts as sensitive as conflict prevention, peacebuilding, and humanitarian action.

This policy outlines the core ethical principles that guide all aspects of AI4P, from idea generation and community review to project funding and implementation. It is a commitment to fostering AI innovation that does good, does no harm, and ultimately serves humanity's highest aspirations for peace.

2. Our Foundational Commitment: “Do No Harm“

The paramount principle guiding all AI4P activities is to “Do No Harm.“ We are committed to ensuring that AI solutions promoted and funded through our platform:

  • Do not inadvertently exacerbate existing conflicts or create new ones.
  • Do not contribute to human rights abuses, discrimination, or systemic injustice.
  • Do not undermine peace processes, reconciliation efforts, or humanitarian principles.
  • Do not cause undue risk or distress to individuals or communities.

We will proactively identify, assess, and mitigate potential negative impacts and risks associated with AI for Peace applications at every stage of our process.

3. Core Ethical Principles for AI4P

All ideas submitted, reviewed, and projects funded under the AI4P initiative must adhere to the following principles:

4. Implementation & Review Process

These principles are integrated into the AI4P process:

  • Idea Submission: Submitters are required to acknowledge and describe how their idea aligns with these principles.
  • LLM & Human Review: Our multi-tiered review process, combining advanced AI analysis with expert human judgment, specifically assesses ideas against these ethical principles. Potential ethical red flags raised by LLMs will trigger heightened human scrutiny.
  • Challenge Design: RFPs and hackathon challenges will explicitly incorporate ethical considerations as evaluation criteria.
  • Project Funding: Adherence to these principles will be a prerequisite for receiving DeepFunding grants for AI4P projects.
  • Ongoing Monitoring: Funded projects will be encouraged to periodically report on their adherence to these principles and any ethical challenges encountered.
  • Community Engagement: We invite our community to engage in discussions about AI ethics in peacebuilding and to provide feedback on this policy.

5. Continuous Improvement

The field of AI ethics is constantly evolving. AI4P is committed to a process of continuous learning and improvement. This policy will be regularly reviewed and updated to reflect new understanding, emerging best practices, and the evolving needs of the peacebuilding domain.
